Puff Pastry Apple Tarts

Puff pastry strips are wrapped around apple slices and baked to make these pastry “flowers.” They need only a few ingredients and can be pulled together in just about a half hour.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples (use firm, tart apples—Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, or Granny Smith will all work)
  • 1 box puff pastry, thawed overnight in fridge
  • 1 egg
  • Sugar
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Peel the apples and cut them into slices.
  2. Remove the center from each slice.
  3. Unroll the puff pastry onto a clean surface. Cut it into strips with a pizza cutter.
  4. Wrap the pastry strips around the apple rings (going through the center with each wrap).
  5. Place the pastry flowers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Brush them with egg, and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. If the pastry is too warm, it won’t puff, so place flowers in fridge for 30 minutes before baking (optional step)
  8. Bake in the oven at 200°C/400°F for 20 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
